Request Accommodations

Getting Started:

  1. Complete an online request form, including any narrative information you consider important in identifying disability-related barriers you may encounter in the educational environment. Please use your Tulane email and TUID to complete this form.
  2. Provide the suggested documentation supporting your request(s), which you will be able to upload immediately after submitting your online request form or through the link provided in the automated email acknowledging receipt of your online form. Review these Documentation Guidelines for more information, and review additional considerations on this page. You can also use our Goldman Center Fillable Provider Form for requesting this information from your qualified provider.
  3. Monitor your email affiliated with your application for next steps, such as self-scheduling your Access Interview or providing additional documentation.
If you have questions about navigating this application process, please feel free to request a brief consultation with a member of our team via email at goldman@tulane.edu or (504) 862-8433.

Application Review: The Interactive Process

Standard Review:

For requests based in academic, housing, and/or dining accessibility barriers.

  1. Once you submit your online request form and provide supporting documentation, the Goldman Center will review the available information and either request additional documentation or invite you to self-schedule an Access Interview with a member of our team.
  2. Self-schedule your Access Interview via the Calendly link sent to your email; Access Interviews may be via Zoom or in-person.
  3. Attend your Access Interview. During the meeting, a member of our team will ask you questions to better understand your individual experience and discuss information found in your supporting documentation. The team member will communicate information about the next steps (i.e., timeline) unique to your request.
  4. Check your Tulane email for a status update regarding your request; your eligibility information and/or alternative supporting resources will be communicated via email.
  5. If approved for accommodations, you should activate approved accommodations and coordinate your approved accommodations, following the steps detailed in our New Student Tutorial videos sent to the email you provided us with. Please note that we do not guarantee that exams happening within 4 business days of your approval can be accommodated by the Goldman Center.

Desk Review:

For requests based in SPECIFIC academic accessibility barriers.

Students may opt-in to this review by checking the appropriate box on the online request form.  A Desk Review eliminates the need for scheduled Access Interview when sufficient narrative information is provided by the student in the online request form AND the provided supporting documentation is sufficient.

A Desk Review process is applicable to ONLY the following accommodations.

  • Extended time x 1.5 (50% additional time) for exams
  • Distraction-Reduced Environment for Exams
  • Use of Computer for Typing Notes

Requests which include more than the following will be contacted to schedule an Access Interview, even if part of their request could be processed via Desk Review. Note: Even if additional accommodations are recommended by a provider in a student’s documentation, the Desk Review will consider ONLY these listed accommodations.

  1. Submit an application compliant with the request guidance for Desk Review, including documentation compliant with our guidelines.
  2. Check your Tulane email for a status update regarding your request. If your application is outside the scope of a Desk Review, you will be invited to self-schedule an Access Interview, even though you opted in to Desk Review.
  3. For compliant applications, an email determination will follow with your approved accommodations and pertinent implementation instructions.
  4. If approved for accommodations, you must activate your approved accommodations and coordinate your approved accommodations, following the steps detailed in our New Student Tutorial videos provided. Please note that we do not guarantee that exams happening within 4 business days of your approval can be accommodated by the Goldman Center.

Why opt-in for Desk-Review?

By intentionally considering what access-based accommodations you may need at Tulane and only requesting those accommodations, you may experience a shorter wait-period between application submission and receipt of your determination. This is particularly true at high demand times, such as the start of an academic semester. However, there is no guaranteed timeline for determination for these requests. This is not a guarantee of an "expedited" review.

Can I still request additional accommodations if I opt-in for Desk Review?

If you are approved via Desk Review, you are more than welcome to schedule a time to consult with the Goldman Center about your approved accommodations. Students are also welcome to submit an “Additional Accommodation Request” to be considered for additional support; students would then be invited schedule an Access Interview to discuss this additional request.
